- Every year Gina’s family goes to the lake for the 4th of July. It’s the same story all the time; mom does all the work, dad complains about the driving, and her two idiot brothers fighting in the car, the whole way there. They stay at the same cabin, swim in the same lake, and have a cook-out with the same people; then watch fire works that also appear to be the same year after year. - By all outward appearances, Roger and Ellen looked like the perfect couple. They met in college, married shortly afterwards, and both went on to have successful careers. They made a fortune together; bought a big house, had three or four cars, a boat, jewelry, clothes, and often took lavish vacations. Throwing parties, and entertaining their snooty friends was another ritual they performed to perfection. It was all a performance, meticulous executed, but nothing more than a big fat show, and lie. They loathed each other; despised the ground they walked on. Yet more than their hatred was their greed and love of money and things. - The rural town where Ben lives holds an annual ‘country fair’ around the 4th of July. There are carnival rides, and plenty of those idiotic games rigged so no one can win. People come from near and far as there’s lots to eat, and more beer to drink, than pigs in a trough. Ben’s planning on making some fireworks of his own. As it begins to get dark, he sneaks off with his girlfriend, determined to find that ‘special’ place from last year. Young and horny with anticipation, they can barely contain themselves long enough to find the spot.
