Dogs

Every prompt will center around the topic of dogs. Read the prompt and finish the story. As you will see below the prompt is a file you can download. Download this file, print it out and write your story, or download the file, fill in the story, and save it.

Now write your story based on these prompts and see if you can come up with a good surprise ending. There are no wrong answers. All you want to do is let your mind wonder, use your imagination, and let the words flow.

  1. David’s teacher assigned the class a project about animals. In order to make it fair, and give every student a different animal, she matched the animal with the first initial of the child’s name. David got dogs, Bobby, bears, Lindsay, lions, and so on. David wanted to bring his dog, Jethro, to class, as part of the project, and the teacher said it was okay. On the day he was to do his presentation, Jethro was no where to be found.   2. Those TV shows about the animal rescue teams, all around the country, fascinated Ben. He never understood how people could do the horrible things shown, to animals, especially their own pets. It absolutely disgusted him seeing dogs, cats, and other animals being starved or tied to a pole without any food or water, by their owners. It didn’t make sense; after all having a pet is something one chooses to do. Nobody is forced to own a pet, yet people all the time make a choice to have them, then knowingly let them starve.   3. On their way home from school one day, Katie and Pete notice a little black dog following them. He’s very small, so they assume he’s a puppy, and may be lost. He has no collar or tags, but appears real friendly, and nice, so they take him home, all excited with their new furry friend. Their mother doesn’t share the enthusiasm, and decides the puppy must already have a home. She decides to walk the same path the kids do from school, and see if anyone is missing a dog. About half way there, they spot a older female dog, lying dead by the side of the road. It must be the pup’s mother…..
